Siggy's World
My life as Sigmund Freud Kitty, my favorite Christmas recipes, and free e-cards.

Hi, I am Siggy the cat. My master doesn't know that I use her computer when she is at work. She leaves the computer on while she is away thinking no one will bother it. Won't she be surprised?

My Life as Sigmund Freud Kitty

I started my life in California. One day there was a big earthquake and I was trapped under the foundation of a building for many days. Luckily some nice men came and rescued me. The lady who owned me was so happy to see me that she kissed me on the head. Boy was I grateful that she loved me so much. She and her husband had lost everything in the earthquake. They loaded me and my sister up in a pretty new van and began traveling east on Interstate-40. One day for lunch they stopped at the Burger King in Amarillo, Texas. The nice lady and her mean husband began arguing about me and my sister. The mean man dumped us out of the van and drove away! I never knew bad things could happen to little kitties.

It was a very cold day in January and white crystals were falling from the sky. Later someone told me it was snow. I had never seen snow before. My little feet were so cold when I stepped on the snow. I didn't know which way to go or what a little kitty was supposed to do. I saw a building up the street where people kept going inside. I went to the door and peeked in to see if there were any other little kitties inside. I didn't see any other kitties but on the door said, Amarillo School Employees Credit Union. I wanted to go in and see what everyone was doing and warm up a bit. When the door opened I saw my chance. I ran through the door and gave them my best smile. I just knew that everyone would love me if I smiled a great big smile. That isn't what happened. I kept getting thrown out in the cold again and again. One lady picked me up and held me so gently. She carried me under her coat down the street and set me down in front of daycare center. I didn't quite understand what she expected me to do. I raced her back to the building and there I was standing at the door waiting for her. I was rather pleased with my speed but she was not. A little later another lady came into the credit union. She picked me up, kissed me on the head and said she would take me home.

I liked my new master very much. She was working on a counseling degree at West Texas A&M. I loved her books. I could sit on them for hours. My idea of fun was to lay on the book so she would have to pet me but she kept moving me away so that she could read it. I was especially fond of the chapter about Sigmund Freud. I guess that is how I got my name. One day she said, "Ok, Mr. Freud, move your rear." From that day on I have been called, Siggy. She says my real name is Sigmund Freud Kitty.

I think I am a rather brave cat but I think my master would disagree. She bases that on only one incident when I was a rather small kitty. I was sleeping and being as good as I could be. When I opened my eyes from my afternoon nap there on my nose was this huge bug. It must have been twice my size. I did the only thing a little kitty could do. I jumped on top of the refrigerator and hollered for my master to come save me from this vicious monster. My master came and killed that huge monster. I was so grateful. My master laughed for days at me about being afraid of an itty bitty bug. All I can say is to me it looked gigantic.

My favorite activities include watching birds, squirrels and TV. My master has lots of bird feeders which means I have birds to watch all day. A squirrel lives outside my living room window. He is so cute to watch. When he sees me in the window he does backflips. I love to watch TV. My favorite character is Jack on The Young and The Restless. He has such a nice voice. When my master tries to turn off the TV when Jack is on I pitch a fit and get out of sorts for several hours.

My master has muscular dystrophy.  She spent a lot of time teaching me how to fetch her cell phone.  First she gave me treats when I would get near the cell phone.  Then she gave me treats for picking up the phone.  I am now able to pick up her phone and bring it to her on demand.  She kisses me a lot on my head when I do this and gives me treats.  I am now her helper.  When she falls and can't get up I can bring her the cell phone so she can call someone for help.  She thinks I am the best kitty in the world.  I have her number now.  Bring her the phone and I get treats.

After couple of years of being an only cat, my master brought home another cat. Annie had been living with a lady that had MS. The lady had died and Annie needed a home. Annie wasn't a cat that was easy to like. She was all hiss and no fun at all when she first came to live at my house. My master couldn't say her original name so she renamed her Annie. She was named after Sigmund Freud's famous patient, Anna O. At first I didn't like Annie at all. She was a cat that didn't know how to groom herself or anything. My master, the counselor, said that she was depressed and I had to back off from picking on her. Annie had to learn some things the hard way. The only way I could teach her to groom herself was to hit her over the head with my paw to get her attention and show her how to groom herself. Sometimes it took 5 or 6 whacks of my paw to get her to start grooming herself. Now she does a great job grooming herself.

Annie's only trick so far is to roll over on her back so my master could rub her tummy. She spends all of her time bird watching and sleeping. There are times I still don't like Annie today. She tends to tattle on me. We both sleep with our master. My master was tired of Annie taking up more than her share of the bed so my master made little pads on her bed for each of us to sleep and expects us to stay in our own area. The other night I decided to sleep on the other side of the bed. I was snoozing away and minding my own business when Annie taps my master on the shoulder and wakes her up to tell her that I was not on my area. I have never been fond of tattletales.

Annie was my faithful friend for a number of years.  She died on August 26, 2003.  I miss her so much.
