Skaggs Family Genealogy Resources

This page is a collection of genealogy resources on the Skaggs Family History. 

The Skaggs were known as the Longhunters.   The Longhunters were a group of men that went into Kentucky in the fall of each year to trap and gather furs.  When their mules were loaded they returned home to sell them.  They traveled with Daniel Boone and others. 

Presently working on the Skaggs in Maryland.

Over 600 pages, hard cover, on acid free paper, a few pictures, and index and old documents.   This book chronicles the descendants of Richard Skaggs.  The family is traced from Barren Co., Ky. to Ill., Mo., Ark. and Texas.  It includes information concerning the Rutledge family, the Jones boys, the Montgomery family and Armstrong families that were friends of Lincoln.

A paper back book, about Charles Skaggs and his family.   His son James was a wagon master.  The  wagon train had l69 people---all Skaggs families and relatives.  The wagon train broke up in Ill.  The book contains a letter that was written by one of James' slaves.
