What We Believe

Covenant of Joy shares a heritage with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which was brought from to the "New World" to be a biblically-based movement. The only requirement for membership is a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Baptism is the outward sign of the inward surrender of the believer into the death, burial and resurrection to new life in Christ.

Specific Beliefs We Affirm

The way to God's good life is through Jesus Christ.

Affirmation of faith in Jesus Christ and baptism into His name is the only way to salvation and a fulfilling life of true joy.

Christ helps us achieve success in life by His presence in us.

We cannot live positive, fruitful lives on our own strength, so Christ transforms our lives from within by the Holy Spirit at work in us.

The Bible is the written Word of God, and is revealed truth--the basis for all we believe.

The Bible alone determines our doctrine and gives us guidance in our daily Christian walk.

Our church takes seriously the "priesthood of all believers."

All Christians have direct access to God and are free to think through the Bible for themselves. Beyond the essential doctrines of salvation, each member is free to disagree on interpretations of the non-essentials of faith without being disagreeable.

The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion) focuses our worship on the saving act of Jesus on the cross.

The central act of our worship is communion, a weekly remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross to free us from our sin.

The equality of men and women before God.

No person should be barred from serving Christ's church because of race or gender. Women serve equally with men in our congregational life.
